Eka Knivar AB
Here is another example of tradition and technology giving great results. EKA has been producing knives since 1882. EKA can still be found at the original site in Eskilstuna, just south of Stockholm, Sweden. Most of the first half of the twentieth century was spent competing with the other forty-odd knife making companies in this town. Not many of them survive today. In fact, most have disappeared. But EKA has stood the test of time. You don’t manage that with inferior products.
EKA began production with a large range of folding knives but has since increased its product program to encompass an equally large range of non folding knives to suit the hunting, fishing and Great Outdoors market. After more than 100 years in the industry, EKA has become a well-known brand, a symbol of quality and craftsmanship. Our knives are recognized over the whole world for their strength, safety and first class design. Professional skill, precision and experience from not only hunting and fishing but the entire outdoors arena is the basis of our reputation. At EKA we place the same high standard on all our knives, saws and accessories.
We usually say that there are three necessary basic components for manufacturing a quality knife:
1. The steel used must be of high quality. At EKA we use stainless steel from the well known Swedish steel manufacturers Sandvik for our knives. This steel has the technical name 12C27 to denote its standard.
2. The blade must be hardened to between 57-59 Rockwell C.
3. The cutting edge must be carefully designed. To guarantee a razor sharp and sustainable edge EKA uses a 40 degree angle to produce the desired result.
Try one of our products and you will see how well it works out.
New Zealand has already been introduced to one of our more famous technical innovations; Swingblade. This knife was developed in conjunction with Outdoor Edge from the USA. This revolutionary design encompassing both a cutting and gutting blade in swingblade format has been a huge success.
In the latest edition of Hunting & Fishing New Zealand’s catalogue (pg.80), Kerry Macdonald from Manawhatu Hunting and Fishing NZ test fired the Swingblade and wrote amongst other things the following:
“Eka Knives have been at it since 1882, so after 127 years this adds up to the skinning and gutting of a lot of moose, no wonder these guys reckon they know what they are doing – and I agree.”
